Genesee is a premier mountain town located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just 20 minutes west of Denver. Situated across from Lookout Mountain, Genesee sits at 7,500 feet above sea level.
The Genesee community prides itself on the master development for the town’s residences, whose overall goal was to develop the area to coexist around the natural environment. Each of the 883 residences were built in 2,000 acres of spectacular mountain property, of which 1,200 acres were set aside as open space for wildlife. The views vary from the plains, Mt. Evans, the continental divide, Bear Creek Canyon, Arapaho peaks, and even the downtown Denver skyline. The Genesee community preserves the mountain town’s natural appearance by limiting lot-line fencing, architectural controls, and subdued outdoor lighting to reduce light pollution.
Genesee restaurants include local favorite Genesee Pub and BBQ, Blackbird Cafe and Tavern, Murphy’s Mountain Grill, and the nationally renowned Chart House. A noticeable landmark from I-70 is the Sleeper House, a distinctive elliptical curved house near the peak of Genesee mountain built for the 1973 Woody Allen sci-fi comedy, Sleeper.
Genesee amenities include three full-service club houses with pools, fitness centers, tennis and pickleball courts, a local library, and meeting rooms. Over 12 miles of hiking trails are sprawled throughout the various open spaces in town. The community stays close-knit with many different social groups for hiking, swimming, quilting, theater, book clubs, and more. The town is patrolled 24/7 and security is available to provide property checks while residents are out of town.
Throughout the year, the town hosts different events including a 4th of July parade, outdoor summer concerts, and year-round First-Friday get togethers.
