Elizabeth, Colorado is a town about 45-minutes southeast from downtown Denver. Denver’s 9NEWS reported that over 80% of Elizabeth residents commute to Denver and Colorado Springs for work. Known for its open spaces and a rural setting, Elizabeth is home to just over 1,500 people.
In 1855, Elizabeth was simply a single sawmill camp. However, after the discovery of gold and the influx of farming, cattle-ranching and logging, Elizabeth officially became an incorporated town of 300 people in 1890. It was only in 1990 when the town’s population began to permanently expand due to formerly urban residents who were able to commute affordably.
The downtown area is quiet and is home to Elizabeth Brewing Company, which, like most of the downtown area, is located in an old historic building. However, as more people discover Elizabeth, the town is expecting to develop with more homes and housing while maintaining the quintessential rural heritage.
